Photolusion

Photolusion is a word that my teacher Caryn Esplin invented, meaning a photo that creates an illusion of something it is not. There are two types of Photolusion. Photolusion straight, is an undedited photo taken to create an illusion. Photolusion blend, is when two or more images are blended together in Photoshop to create an illusion.  In this image, I took a picture of our doll house, and the toys in it, and then took a picture of my little sister "fixing her hair", and used Photoshop to mask her into the picture, and re-size her so she fit in with the toys. The other one is just the same, but a different situation set up. This time she's playing with her toys. My little sister LOVED doing this project, because she got to look like she was in her doll house. How fun for a little girl! ":) It's a really fun project to do, and the ideas are ENDLESS when it comes to Photolusions!

Original Photos used to make the Photolusions:
"Getting Ready" 10/30/10 11:27 am. Cokeville WY. f-stop: 3.5 shutter: 1/60 sec. Canon PowerShot S3 SI.
"Mallory Fixing Hair" 10/30/10 3:45 pm. Cokeville WY. f-stop: 2.7 shutter: 1/8 sec. Canon PowerShot S3 SI.
"Doll House" 10/31/10 2:10 pm. Cokeville WY. f-stop: 3.5 shutter: 1/60 sec. Canon PowerShot S3 IS.
"Mallory Playing" 10/31/10 2:25 pm. Cokeville WY. f-stop: 2.7 shutter: 1/60 sec. Canon PowerShot S3 IS.

These are the originals before I did ANY editing. With all of them I adjusted the levels and sats. Then on the "Getting Ready" picture, you'll notice that the back of the dolls hair is scraped off. This is due to being played with so lovingly, so to make it look better, I took the normal paint brush, lowered the opacity, and painted the yellow back over top of where the paint had come off. The other pictures were good with just the minimal edits of levels and saturation. Once again, this was such a fun project. Photolusions have endless possibilities!!

  1. Now Audrey can't wait to go play at Malory's house. She thinks she has a life size doll house!

  2. This is really cool!!! It took me a while to figure out that you put the girl in the doll house in the second image. It just looked like it was her room. You have a very creative eye.
