To edit this image I used an Adjustment Layer. I really like how it brings out the fall colors of the trees in the background. Adjustment layers are a great way to edit without damaging the original pixels. I kept the adjustment layer on the background and the foreground (the sign) is the same as in the original photo. :)

First I adjusted the contrast before any other edits. Then I added a smart filter, and used the "crystalize" filter. I lowered the opacity, and hid the affect on the leaves, branch and berry that appear closest. :)
